About the role

We are seeking a Visual Quality Expert with deep expertise in film, VFX, and animation to evaluate high-resolution visual outputs at the pixel level. This is a contract role requiring 20 hours per week, with working hours overlapping the PST to EST window. Compensation ranges from $60–$90/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate high-resolution video and stills at the pixel level.
  • Identify compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, grain-structure inconsistency, and over- or under-sharpening.
  • Apply an uncompromising focus on intricate details and flag outputs diverging from professional image-quality standards.
  • Design and refine evaluation templates and rating guidelines to ensure consistent application of visual-quality standards, including edge cases.
  • Translate complex visual details into clear, precise descriptive language and capture these in data captions and evaluation templates.
  • Generate visual samples for targeted testing and side-by-side comparison.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and program leads to maintain visual consistency across sequences and reviewers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in high-end visual evaluation across film, VFX, animation, or professional photography.
  • Direct professional experience in at least one discipline: VFX Supervisor, Rendering Supervisor, Lighting Supervisor, Colorist, Director of Photography, Effects Artist, High-End Photographer, Director, Digital Projectionist.
  • Training from a university or program with a highly respected film, visual effects, or digital media program.
  • Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor or display.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, with the ability to generate visual samples for testing and comparison.
  • Ability to engage reliably for 20 hours per week, with working hours overlapping the PST to EST window.
  • Fluent in English, with exceptional ability to translate complex visual details into clear, precise descriptive language.
