Connecticut Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Governing Board seeks a CJIS Technical Writer and Administrative Coordinator to support executive communications, technical documentation, and Governing Board operations.

About the role

In this position you will:

• Prepare executive communications, legislative reports, technical documentation, presentations, website content, and other written and visual materials that explain complex technology initiatives to diverse audiences.
• Coordinate Governing Board meetings, agendas, and supporting materials.
• Maintain the agency’s website and digital communications.
• Assist with stakeholder outreach and public communications.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and criminal-justice partners across Connecticut to advance statewide information-sharing and transparency initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare hard-copy and electronic graphic artwork using various media, including freehand sketches, water colors, oils, photographic art, and three-dimensional presentations.
• Confer with supervisors and stakeholders to determine the most appropriate media and design methods.
• Create camera-ready material, displays, posters, film slides, and three-dimensional scale models for departmental use or public exhibit.
• Perform a full range of graphic-art activities, including website design and maintenance.

Requirements

• Five years of experience in commercial or illustration art, or engineering drafting.
• One year of the above experience must have involved planning, designing, and preparing scale models and/or exhibits for public events or display.
• College training in fine arts or commercial art may substitute for general experience at the rate of fifteen semester hours for one-half year of experience, up to a maximum of four years for a Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience preparing technical reports, executive correspondence, policies, procedures, manuals, or other business publications.
• Experience coordinating meetings, committees, governing boards, or executive-level activities, including preparing agendas, presentation materials, meeting minutes, and meeting documentation.
• Experience developing, maintaining, or publishing content for websites, intranets, or other digital communication platforms, including experience with accessibility standards and content-management practices.
• Experience creating presentations, graphics, newsletters, infographics, or other visual communication products using presentation, publishing, or graphic-design software.
• Experience managing concurrent projects or assignments in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including developing project schedules and tracking progress.

Skills

• Considerable knowledge of effective techniques and methods used in graphic art, including freehand drawing, water colors, oils, photographic art, and three-dimensional presentations.
• Knowledge of and ability to use computer software for publishing and graphic design.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to comprehend and interpret plans, cross-section and contour data, and to produce highly creative work.
