Visiting Teaching Assistant Faculty, Half-time, Kinesiology and Sport Studies

The Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) at DU offers multiple programs, including a Bachelor of Arts and upcoming Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Studies (KINE).

About the Role

We seek a half-time Visiting Assistant Rank Teaching faculty for a 10-month, non-tenure track appointment beginning September 1, 2026. This on-campus position includes primarily teaching duties with some service activities, and may be renewed based on performance and budget. The workload consists of 18 credit hours, with 16 dedicated to teaching (likely all undergraduate KINE courses) and 2 to service. Additional teaching beyond 16 credit hours is paid as overload. This role reports to a KINE co-Academic Program Director/Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities

• Teach 16 credit hours, primarily undergraduate KINE courses, with potential for online graduate-level opportunities.
• Maintain high teaching standards using inclusive pedagogy and technology to enhance student experience.
• Assess student learning and report data for accreditation purposes.
• Develop field-placement opportunities for undergraduate students.
• Guide students on career and graduate school options in kinesiology and sport fields, including writing letters of recommendation.
• Pursue professional development relevant to teaching and service.
• Participate in program and college-level meetings, strategic planning, and philanthropic activities.
• Exhibit professional behavior as outlined in DU’s faculty policies.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in kinesiology or a closely related field (e.g., education, exercise/health/sport psychology, sport sociology, motor development, sport management, physical activity/education).
• Demonstrated ability to teach diverse learners effectively, particularly at the undergraduate level.
• Commitment to social justice and addressing the needs of underserved populations.
• Strong work ethic, adaptability, and openness to feedback.
• Fluency in English.

Skills

• Knowledge of kinesiology and sport studies, with a commitment to inclusive, socially just education.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including outstanding teaching ability.
• Proficiency in technology (e.g., MS Office suite) and strong administrative/leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment.
• Experience engaging with communities or incorporating inclusive teaching methods.
• Ability to adapt to changing course and program needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a sport practitioner (e.g., coach, athletic administrator, physical therapist, or athletic trainer).
• Success in community-based research or programming.
• Strong network in kinesiology and sport.
• Experience securing external funding for research or program support.
• Evidence of scholarship or creative activities in the field.
• Ability to conduct quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research.

Working Environment

• Standard office environment with moderate to high stress levels and occasional interruptions.
• Quiet to moderate noise levels.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally transport objects up to 20 lbs.

Pay

The salary for this position is $45,000, with a compensation range provided as a good faith estimate. The final salary will be determined based on qualifications, budget, internal equity, and market factors.
