VISITING COLLECTION CURATOR

Key Responsibilities

• Lead collection-based research and scholarship, including researching, documenting, and interpreting artworks and artifacts in the museum's permanent collection to support exhibitions, teaching, and public engagement.
• Develop and manage exhibitions, including conceiving, planning and organizing, permanent collection displays and temporary exhibitions.
• Support collections stewardship and museum operations, including maintaining curatorial records, contributing to collections management practices, and collaborating with staff on collection care, loans, and exhibition logistics.
• Provide guidance and oversight for museum programs and staff, including collaborating with and providing direction related to collections, exhibitions, and research activities involving museum staff, interns, and graduate assistants.
• Advance teaching and student engagement, including partnering with faculty to incorporate museum collections into coursework, facilitating object-based learning experiences, and participating in class visits, lectures, and educational activities.
• Promote public engagement and professional outreach, including supporting educational programming, training volunteer docents, participating in community engagement initiatives, and representing the museum through professional activities and scholarly engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in a related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Master's degree or Ph.D in Art History, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting original collections-based research.
• Experience curating museum exhibitions from conception through installation.
• Experience with collections management practices, museum documentation systems, and collections stewardship.
• Experience supervising staff, students, interns, volunteers, or project teams.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publication, presentation, or professional engagement within the museum field.
