Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor-Piano, Setnor School of Music

About the role

The Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor – Piano, to begin Fall 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment.

Responsibilities

• Teach applied piano lessons to graduate and undergraduate students.
• Teach piano skills and piano literature classes.
• Other teaching within candidate’s area of expertise as assigned by the Director.
• Maintain active expertise in the field of piano performance and pedagogy.
• Serve on committees in the School, College, and University.
• Recruitment, program development, community outreach.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in piano.
• Significant experience in studio teaching.
• Significant performance experience as a solo and collaborative pianist.
• Experience performing and teaching across genres and styles of music.
• Ability to utilize and implement new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance comprehensive learning opportunities with a commitment to 21st-Century piano pedagogy.
• Artist-scholar with a developing national profile, with promise toward an international profile.
• Demonstrated success in recruiting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills that contribute to a respectful work environment.
• Ability to develop strategies in defining and supporting the future direction of the piano program and the School of Music.
• Organizational and leadership abilities.
• Commitment to working collegially.
