About the role

The Department of Psychology and Speech at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for two Visiting Assistant Professor of Speech positions starting in August 2026. This is a temporary, non-tenure-track, 9-month position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses per semester in Speech Communication, with primary instructional needs in SPCH 2713 Introduction to Speech Communication.
  • This may include teaching SPCH 2713 through Cowboy Concurrent Online (CCO) courses, which are online dual-credit courses for high school students.
  • Opportunities to teach upper-division courses such as SPCH 4753 Intercultural Communication may also be available.
  • Contribute to departmental instructional needs, maintain regular office hours, participate in departmental activities, and collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or a closely related field by the start date (degree must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date).
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level, or strong promise of effective teaching.
  • PhD in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with high school students is particularly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Ability to teach introductory public speaking and related communication courses.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and collaborate with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses effectively.
