Job Summary
The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2026 with requirements to be physically present on the Hattiesburg and/or Gulf Coast campuses.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Teaching and mentoring students.
- Supervising elementary and special education clinical experiences.
- Demonstrating an understanding of cultural competence.
- Contributing to the mission of the school and profession through service activities.
- Collaborating with colleagues on program development and enhancement.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field (by August 2026).
- Two (2) or more years of full-time teaching experience with standards-based curriculum in a P-12 classroom.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with all groups of individuals in a timely manner.
- Ability to work with a diverse team in multiple settings.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
- Experience setting clear performance expectations and provision of meaningful feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- An earned doctoral degree.
- Experience with literacy, mathematics, or special education.
- Experience leading others in implementing evidence-based instructional practices in P-12 settings (e.g., academic coach, district curriculum lead, professional learning community leader, or settings with students who have high incidence disabilities).
- Experience incorporating technology in instruction and assessment.
- Evidence of creating equitable and culturally-responsive education experiences.
