Visiting Assistant Professor - Assistant Director of Bands
About the role
The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston seeks candidates for a non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor of Band serving as the Assistant Director of Bands. Applicants with expertise in Marching Band and Wind Band pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply. This position will report directly to the Director of the Moores School of Music via the Director of Bands. Public school K-12 experience is encouraged but not required. This is a full-time position that begins August of 2026. The position may be eligible for renewal beyond the first year.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the instruction and coordination of the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band, Cougar Brass, and Spirit Teams
- Conducting the Symphonic Band
- Assisting in recruitment and engagement for the University of Houston Band Program
- Other duties may be assigned based on experience, including academic courses related to band, music education, and conducting
Requirements
- PhD or DMA is preferred
- MM in Wind Conducting, Music Education, or similar with equivalent professional experience required
- Evidence of professional success and exceptional teaching are essential
