General Motors · Milford, MI · 1 wk ago
HybridFull-time

We are seeking experienced and motivated candidates to support the Global Battery & Propulsion Engineering division. In this role, you will create 1D Amesim mechanical modeling analysis for ICE, PHEV, and BEV propulsion systems. These models drive designs and reduce reliance on hardware testing, focusing on components such as electric drive units, engines, and transmissions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive high-impact analytical modeling—build, debug, and execute advanced models, translating insights into clear, actionable direction that influences engineering decisions.
  • Engage across the organization—actively participate in development team discussions and collaborate with engineers to shape outcomes and drive alignment.
  • Partner with the N&V community to deliver propulsion system load cases and Amesim plant models that directly enable program success.
  • Lead the shift toward virtualization by advancing analysis capabilities that reduce reliance on physical testing and accelerate decision-making.
  • Champion continuous improvement by developing and enhancing standard work, ensuring best practices are scalable, efficient, and easy to adopt.
  • Support programs from concept through production, optimizing CAE models to deliver maximum value to customers.
  • Push capability boundaries by contributing to next-generation propulsion N&V tools, methods, and approaches.
  • Identify and drive cost, size, and performance improvements with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Provide technical direction, mentorship, and energy that elevates team performance and enables high-quality, efficient execution.
  • Build strong, influential partnerships across Advanced, Program, Design Release, Validation, Calibration, and Controls teams to drive integrated solutions.
  • Occasionally work non-standard hours to collaborate with overseas analysis support teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience with 1D Amesim simulations.
  • Extensive knowledge in Structural Dynamics as it pertains to NVH.
  • Understanding of ICE, PHEV, and BEV vehicle systems and integration.
  • Familiarity with CAE tools such as HyperMesh, Optistruct, ANSA, AMEsim, ADAMS (or other MBD tools), Actran, Abaqus, Python, and/or Matlab.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Noise & Vibration.
  • Hands-on experience applying Amesim to analyze propulsion system behavior and performance.
  • Strong programming capability in MATLAB and/or Python for efficient data analysis and model development.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in AI/ML applications to enhance modeling, predictive accuracy, and engineering efficiency.
  • Experience in Controls/Calibrations and hands-on testing (vehicle and/or lab).
  • Proficient in resolving numerical stiffness and singularity problems.
  • Experience in Drive Quality development (low-frequency vibration and vehicle response).
  • Thorough understanding of signal processing.
  • Fluency in co-simulation using Function Mock-up Unit (FMU).
  • Recognized as a technical leader in 1D Amesim Modeling tools.

Schedule

This role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week (or other frequency dictated by their manager).
