Virtual - Patient Companion/Safety Sitter

About the role

Multiple full‑time opportunities are available for Virtual Sitter positions on day and night shifts. The role is performed on‑site (not remote) and involves 12‑hour shifts: Day shift 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, Night shift 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM. Virtual Sitters provide remote patient observation using hospital‑based monitoring technology, maintaining continuous, direct observation and basic non‑invasive patient support to promote safety, comfort and well‑being. They work under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assisting with limited tasks that support nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous 1:1 observation for patients requiring enhanced safety monitoring (e.g., fall risk, confusion, behavioral risk, etc.)
• Maintain a safe patient environment and immediately report changes in condition, behavior or safety concerns to the RN.
• Utilize de‑escalation techniques and therapeutic communication.
• Ensure call light and personal items are within patient reach.
• Participate in bedside shift report with direct care staff members.
• Complete observation documentation using assigned tools or checklists.
• Take initiative in rendering service or responding to needs.
• Assist with keeping the patient's room safe, orderly and clean.
• Obtain and record limited vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature; excluding oximeter) and immediately report abnormal findings to the RN.
• Measure and record non‑evasive intake and output; report concerns.
• Assist with limited mobility and repositioning of the patient.
• Assist with toileting (escort and set up only), provide water, snacks or meals as ordered; perform linen adjustments and comfort positioning.
• Respond to call lights and communicate patient needs to staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the patient population.
• Ability to remain alert with uninterrupted focus on the patient at all times.
• Preferred: 6 months of experience in health care or security.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain BLS certification.

Pay

Pay range: $18 – $22 per hour.
