Virtual Financial Planner

About the role

Experience Your Wealth, LLC (EYW) is looking to add a Financial Planner to round out our diamond team — working alongside our lead planner, with support from our Associate Financial Planner and Paraplanner, to help serve our clients in a modern, life-centered way. Our clients are typically mid-to-late career professionals with household income above $500,000 and net worth above $3.5 million, and the majority have some form of equity compensation at a public or private company.

The lead planner runs our client meetings. You own the preparation process, you are a full voice in the room, and you own everything that happens afterward. The deeper technical work is shared with our Associate Financial Planner, which leaves your time for judgment and for clients. As you grow into the role, you will have the opportunity to take a bigger role in client relationships over time. We are staying small on purpose, so that our growth opportunity primarily comes from going deeper with the clients we already have.

This is a full-time and fully remote W-2 position, with travel possible once a year for in-person team retreats/conferences. We prefer flexibility to the typical strict “9-5” corporate structure — we expect you to work normal business hours, but with room to accommodate personal and family needs, assuming there is sufficient collaboration with the team, meetings are being attended and clients’ needs are being met.

How We Work with AI

We have built our own internal AI assistant (Rocky) who has become central to how the firm runs. Rocky holds our SOPs, supports our planning workflows and integrates with our CRM (Slant). This role will require (and encourage!) constant usage of AI to work more efficiently, gather information more effectively and allow us to provide a deeper, more customized experience for our clients.

Who You Are

  • You are a CFP® professional, or you hold a similar designation (CFA, CPA, EA), with 5+ years in an Associate or Financial planner role, a good portion of which has been spent in front of clients
  • You have your own judgment and you know where its edges are. You handle most of what comes at you independently, and you have a good radar for when to delegate up and down to other team members.
  • You are comfortable in grey areas. Much of what lands in front of you will call for a judgment call and you are comfortable making that call and moving forward
  • You are energized by people. Client conversations are the part of the job you look forward to, and you value depth in your client relationships
  • You value the ability to have flexible hours within reason, work remotely and have more autonomy over your time. You manage yourself well, you have a great radar for when to ask for help and collaborate with the team, and you keep tasks and deadlines on track
  • You want to help build a financial planning firm that has a deep focus on a client’s life, values and relationship to money, in addition to the technical side of financial planning
  • You know your way around equity compensation, tax planning and planning for high-income families, and you want to go deeper. Technical depth matters here, and judgment is what separates a strong candidate from the rest

Initial Job Responsibilities

  • Learn financial planning the “EYW way”; integrate your background and experience into our financial planning process
  • New client onboarding
  • Attend client discovery meetings, alongside our behavioral specialist, where the lead planner guides clients through Kinder’s 3 questions
  • Lead the get-organized meeting for new clients — working from the team’s prep to identify what is missing, ask the probing questions and set direction, with support from the team
  • Lead the build of a new client’s initial recommendations and road map, with the lead planner reviewing your work
  • Attend the client initial recommendation meeting
  • Ongoing client meetings
  • Own the pre-meeting process and build the meeting agenda. You direct the team on the pieces they own — tax projections, investment analysis, eMoney scenarios — and get the agenda to roughly 80% – 90% client-ready, then collaborate with the lead planner on the strategic topics to get it to 100%
  • Attend client meetings as a full participant in the conversation, with the lead planner leading the meeting
  • Own the client meeting follow-up process in full — using Rocky to help document what was decided, what happens next, who is doing it and by when
  • Schedule quick working sessions with clients directly when something needs to move before the next meeting
  • Ongoing client care
  • Take the first read on client questions coming in. You decide what to answer, what to hand to the Associate Financial Planner or Paraplanner, and what to bring to the lead planner
  • Own day-to-day client email and answer the majority of ad-hoc planning questions independently, including the conversational, grey-area ones that call for a judgment call
  • Handle the majority of communication with clients’ other professionals — CPAs, estate attorneys, life insurance, P&C insurance
  • Own the process of getting client action items across the finish line. You set the priority, direct the work to the team, keep steady pressure on the client and stay accountable for the outcome. Your role here is to direct this work and see it through
  • Run our monthly process to review outstanding work and touch points across every client relationship. You set the priorities and direct who does what
  • Meet directly with clients for periodic “get shit done” meetings to help complete action items and answer basic to intermediate planning and investment questions
  • Master Slant and all entries, tasks and workflows
  • Financial planning and investment planning
  • Hold your own in a client conversation across cash flow, equity compensation, tax, estate, insurance and employee benefits, with enough depth to move things forward in the moment and/or ask the right type of questions
  • Review and interpret data from equity comp agreements, estate plans, life insurance policies, employee benefit guides, P&C insurance and draft tax returns, and know what questions they raise
  • Delegate to our Associate Financial Planner on the deeper technical work — eMoney scenarios, tax projections in Holistiplan and annual tax letters — and coordinate with them on the strategic investment work they own through our outsourced investment team, GeoWealth
  • Learning and growth
  • Participate in dedicated financial therapy and communication training sessions and office hours with Ashley Quamme and Meghaan Lurtz from Beyond the Plan
  • Participate in dedicated technical training sessions, with opportunities to take on more advanced financial planning work as your skills progress
  • Have a hand in shaping how the firm operates, including our internal AI systems and workflows

Preferred Qualifications & Attributes

  • CFP® designation and/or similar designation (CFA, CPA, EA)
  • Experience supporting mid-late career professionals with equity compensation and/or small business ownership; solid foundational personal tax knowledge
  • You move things forward. You notice when something is stuck and you take action on it
  • You are direct. You say what you mean, you give real feedback, you receive it well, and you can work through conflict openly and productively
  • Strong emotional literacy; you have the ability to name and process emotions, lean into vulnerability, provide and receive feedback and work through conflict in a healthy way
  • Enjoy working and interacting with people, strong relationship skills and ability to actively listen. You prefer quality of relationships over quantity of relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A large share of our client communication happens over email, so yours should be clear, warm and unambiguous

Salary & Benefits

  • $120,000 base salary
  • 36 hour work week on average. While it will ebb and flow, 36 hours is what we expect. We encourage you to take breaks, get outside and reset during the workday to properly manage your mental energy.
  • 4 weeks PTO. This is in addition to all federal holidays with some extra time off around Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Half-day summer Fridays from June through mid-September and last week of the year off as well
  • $3,000 annual vacation stipend to help encourage you to take time off and travel
  • $3,000 professional development stipend
  • $1,000 annual mental health stipend
  • 401(k) offered with a 4% safe harbor employer match
  • Long-term disability insurance paid for through FPA
  • FPA and CFP® annual dues covered
  • We don’t currently offer health insurance, but will help cover the cost of health insurance through your state if you don’t have coverage through a partner
