About the role

The Heartland Virtual Fence Project provides support for cattle producers in Missouri and Nebraska to implement virtual fencing technology and grazing management practices to protect vulnerable aspects of a landscape. As a Virtual Fencing Program Specialist, you will:

  • Recruit producers into the Heartland Virtual Fence Program through attending outreach events, direct communication, and collaboration with Extension and partner organizations.

  • Coordinate and support workshops, webinars, demonstrations, field days, and outreach events in collaboration with Extension faculty and project partners. This would include dealing with event logistics and providing educational content.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Range Management, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Communications, Agronomy, Natural Resources, or related field plus two years of experience coordinating programs or projects involving multiple stakeholders and outreach activities/communication with stakeholders. Additional years of completed, relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Familiarity with beef cattle production and grazing management.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to travel across Nebraska.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Range Management or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Animal Science, Range Management or related field.
  • Experience working with producers or in Extension/outreach roles.
  • Experience with data management and reporting.
  • Familiarity with precision livestock technologies (e.g., virtual fencing, GPS tracking).
  • Experience with conservation programs (e.g., NRCS EQIP, CSP).
  • Experience with data collection or project coordination.

Skills

  • Communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Travel across Nebraska.
