Virtual Design + Construction Intern
About the role
As a Virtual Design + Construction (VDC) Intern, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how BIM, reality capture, visualization, AI, and emerging technologies are helping our teams plan, coordinate, and deliver complex construction projects. You'll work with our VDC team, collaborate with project teams, and have opportunities to test new ideas and technologies along the way.
Responsibilities
- Support VDC staff with BIM coordination activities, including model setup, clash detection, issue tracking, coordination meetings, and field verification of installed systems
- Assist with creating visual graphics and presentation materials for project pursuits, proposals, and marketing efforts
- Assist with the deployment and use of reality capture technology to support documentation, coordination, and field verification
- Pilot emerging technologies and workflows and provide feedback to support VDC research and development initiatives
- Gain exposure to AI applications within the construction industry and explore how emerging tools can support project delivery
- Collaborate with VDC, project management, estimating, and field teams to see how technology connects the office to the jobsite
- Learn how technology is applied to real construction projects—and help us find new ways to Build Better Together
Where You'll Work
This is an in-person internship based in one of the following locations: Raleigh, NC; Wilmington, NC; Orlando, FL.

Course of Study
We welcome students pursuing degrees in areas such as: Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Engineering, Game Design, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another related field.
Skills
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) concepts, model coordination, or construction technology workflows
- Experience with Autodesk software such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or Forma is preferred
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Curiosity about emerging technology and a willingness to learn, experiment, and ask questions
