Responsibilities

  • Practice medicine under the supervision of a physician using sound medical judgment and adhering to all ethical considerations.
  • Keep abreast of current technologies and industry standards.
  • Under the supervision of a physician, provide care for patients with acute and chronic illness encountered in the older adult patient.
  • Under the supervision of a physician, accountable for patient care and outcomes and will appropriately seek consultation from specialists when needed, though will stay involved in, and be responsible for, the detailed care of the patient.
  • Engage with hospitalists whenever a patient is in the hospital.
  • Meet all clinical obligations of the medical practice: Accrediting Agency compliance, CLIA compliance, drug prescription compliance, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations, Safety Regulations, etc.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, manage, educate, promote health, and provide care coordination and documentation for patients with acute and complex chronic health needs using evidence-based medicine and practice guidelines.
  • Follow all internal policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for the completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical processing/documentation.
  • Maintain complete and detailed records, electronically in the EMR, of patients’ health care plans and prognosis, completed within 48 hours of each patient’s visit.
  • Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent/manage disease or disability.
  • Analyze and interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnosis.
  • Interpret data and diagnostic results for an appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gases, radiology, EKG, etc., in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Exhibit behavior that emphasizes compassion, quality, loyalty, and conscientiousness.
  • Document continuing education per licensure and certification requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
  • Enact proper chain of command for patient complaints.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements/Skills

  • Completion of a four-year Physician Assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training, or;
  • Completion of a two-year accredited Physician Assistant program (which requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of the PA program.
  • State licensure or accreditation as a Physician Assistant.
  • At least 1 year of experience in outpatient primary care experience.
  • Prior experience working in an electronic medical records system.
  • Provide 5 Star service in accordance with the Better Health Group's mission.
  • Skilled in traditional nursing disciplines of patient assessment and management.
  • ACLS/BLS certification required as mandated by state.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a various group of people.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, teaching ability, and good telephone skills.
  • Working knowledge with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for real-time collaboration.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and transferring patients, manual and finger dexterity; including eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing, walking, pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching at arm’s length and overhead in a clinic for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed.
  • Requires ability to lift/carry up to 15 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires ability to operate a motor vehicle and have own means of transportation.
