Primary Responsibilities
- Identifying and detecting potential shooting events, individuals, and groups at highest risk of involvement in a shooting or killing
- Formulating action plans to resolve conflicts
- Developing relationships with all key individuals
- Making daily contact with key individuals to help them deal with "in the moment" stressful events or situations without shooting
- Preventing larger scale events or retaliatory violence before it occurs
- Informing and training individuals and groups on specific strategies to bring about behavior change
- Using data to inform all efforts
- Documenting all conflict mediations (form provided by MHD/OVP)
- Keeping DAILY log documenting all efforts in the Data Base
- Attending daily briefings and debriefings
- Attending weekly team meetings
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
- Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum Required Experience: Experience working with at-risk youth, street organizations (gangs), and economically distressed communities
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience and/or training in crisis intervention
- Knowledge of Milwaukee communities
Schedule
Tuesday through Saturday, 2 PM - 11 PM
Physical Requirements
- Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously
- Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment
- Sensory Acuity Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required
- May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects

About the Role
To work directly with the Milwaukee Health Department Office of Violence Prevention (MHD/OVP), the community residents, businesses, and other community-based organizations to implement the Cure Violence Model. Skilled OW’s are a key ingredient to the success of this initiative and are essential in helping to facilitate positive change among high-risk individuals, focusing on age group 14-35.
