About the role
Operate a school bus which transports pupils and other authorized personnel to and from schools; does related work as required or assigned.
NSBSD Pedagogy Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Submit to and pass the pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test.
- Fingerprints must clear Public Safety and FBI checks.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduated from high school or general education degree.
- Two years of related experience and/or training.
- Preference: Inupiaq speaking and cultural experience preferred.
Language Skills
- Communicate (speak, read, and write) effectively in the English language.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write reports and correspondence.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from the supervisor, staff, and public.
Mathematical Skills
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Reasoning Abilities
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
- Fingerprints must clear Public Safety and FBI checks.
- Must submit to and successfully pass State Drug and Alcohol testing.
- Certified in First Aid.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports problems to the proper authority.
- Keeps the assigned bus clean.
- Follows assigned route and schedule.
- Checks the bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Transports and discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Completes and attends all training sessions as required.
- Adheres to all District rules and regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Sometimes stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Talk and hear.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Drive at night.
