About the role
Ascend Hospice is seeking a Vigil Aide/Certified Home Health Aide to provide end-of-life vigil presence in the Kansas City area. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting patients and families during this challenging time.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to patients, families, and facilities by offering end-of-life vigil presence at bedside in home or nursing home settings.
- Support families through listening, education, and providing hospice presence as the patient is actively dying.
- Collaborate with facilities to ensure patient comfort, care, and support.
- Offer presence after death to support family and facility prior to funeral home arrival.
- Occasionally provide caregiver relief for families who need to step away from the bedside.
- Assist with showers or other patient care needs as directed.
- Perform ADL activities such as personal hygiene, grooming, mouth care, skin care, and nail care.
- Assist with positioning and transfers, frequent turning, and bed-bound residents' care.
- Help with prescribed exercises and ROM activities as instructed by the Hospice Nurse.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks, including changing linens and assisting with laundry.
- Feed and assist with meals, obtain vital signs, and report any changes to the Hospice Nurse.
- Aid in medication administration as per regulatory and accrediting body guidelines.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- State Certified CHHA/CNA license.
- One year of experience in hospice or home health, preferred but not required.
- Willingness to travel.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Strong communication skills and empathy.
- Basic knowledge of hospice care and end-of-life issues.
