About the Role

Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily activities and duties of Victim Specialists at various locations, particularly Districts 2 (Skokie), 3 (Rolling Meadows), 4 (Maywood), and 5 (Bridgeview) courthouses. The Supervisor functions as a part of the Victim Services Bureau leadership team, consulting with ASA Supervisors, Investigations, and Office Managers as needed. The Supervisor ensures that staff fully comply with all statutory notification requirements and uphold victims’ rights. The Supervisor maintains a thorough understanding of the Victim Specialist role to provide effective guidance, coaching, and support to staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations with Victim Specialists, including interactions with ASAs, victims, witnesses, court personnel, and other partners.
• Provide and coordinate onboarding training for new staff and ongoing professional development to current staff.
• Serve as a liaison between victims and witnesses and the State’s Attorney’s Office.
• Ensure accurate and current case records; enforce all policies related to CCSAO database usage, Victim Specialist case management expectations, and record retention; conduct regular case audits.
• Enforce performance and conduct standards, including issuing corrective or disciplinary action when appropriate.
• Track staff grant-related work and provide required reporting to the Deputy Bureau Chief, Bureau Chief, and Programs and Development Division, as needed.
• Hold regular team meetings and participate in scheduled managerial meetings.
• Assign caseloads and responsibilities equitably among staff.
• Build and maintain a network of community-based advocates, government agencies, and partner organizations to expand referral options for victims; promote effective interagency cooperation with service referrals.
• Resolve court-related issues arising from victims’ or witnesses’ interactions with the court system; assist with courtroom specialist duties during staff shortages, as needed.
• Identify crisis situations and provide in-person crisis intervention and referrals.
• Present to community organizations on victim services, the role of the Victim Specialist, and the CCSAO’s Victim Service Bureau.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Adapt to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the team.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant program (sociology, psychology, women’s studies or related field). In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, five (5) or more years of relevant experience may be substituted.
• The candidate must be an empathetic listener with knowledge of the rights of victims as defined by state and national law and trauma-informed care.
• Experience working with crime victims and proficiency in protective orders.
• Ability to work flexible hours and travel to other courthouse locations, as needed.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
• Ability to work independently, multi-task, and demonstrate cultural competency.
• Excellent grammar, organizational, and communication skills both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior management or leadership experience.
• Experience collaborating with community-based service providers.
• Knowledge of CCSAO databases.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: The position requires the ability to stand or walk frequently, often for extended periods. You may need to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds regularly, and occasionally heavier items. The job may also involve a significant amount of walking or standing relative to sedentary roles.

Pay

$87,641 (Entry) - This may vary for internal candidates.
