About the role
The Vice President, Structural Engineering will lead and mentor a team of engineers in the design, construction, and management of complex building and infrastructure projects. This role requires a deep understanding of structural engineering principles and a proven track record in delivering high-quality, sustainable projects.
Responsibilities
- Research, design, and develop construction plans and specifications for various building and infrastructure projects.
- Conduct inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of project deliverables.
- Develop and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients to address project challenges and opportunities.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to communicate project findings and recommendations.
- Coordinate and review construction plans to ensure data integrity and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Apply advanced technologies and modeling techniques to improve project outcomes and sustainability.
- Exercise responsible decision-making regarding project finances and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Knowledge and experience with building structural planning, design, and construction management.
- Working knowledge with sustainability and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
- Specific knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, understand plans and specifications, and compare to regulations.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, structural software (such as ETABS or RAM), Building Information Modeling (BIM), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis, and arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work flexible schedules as needed for project-specific requirements.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering (structural) preferred.
- Structural Engineering (SE) license preferred.
