About the Role
This executive position provides enterprise leadership for all revenue cycle operations across a complex healthcare organization. The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management will be responsible for improving reimbursement, accelerating cash collections, reducing denials, strengthening payer and regulatory compliance, and driving consistent performance across the full revenue cycle. The role partners closely with Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, Managed Care, and other business leaders to improve processes, implement scalable solutions, and enhance overall revenue cycle effectiveness. The position is 100% remote.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end revenue cycle operations, including eligibility, authorization, billing, collections, denial management, cash posting, and accounts receivable.
- Develop and execute strategies to improve reimbursement, reduce aging, accelerate cash collections, and minimize bad debt and denials.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators, productivity metrics, and financial benchmarks to evaluate revenue cycle performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Analyze operational and financial trends, identify risks and root causes, and develop action plans that improve accuracy, efficiency, and cash realization.
- Drive standardization and continuous improvement across billing, coding, collections, payment posting, and related revenue cycle processes.
- Lead technology, automation, and system optimization initiatives designed to reduce manual activity, improve productivity, and strengthen reporting capabilities.
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, IT, Managed Care, Sales, and other stakeholders to resolve payer issues, improve process handoffs, and support reimbursement and contract strategies.
- Maintain strong revenue cycle policies, procedures, internal controls, and governance processes to ensure consistency, compliance, and appropriate cash safeguards.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, commercial payer, HIPAA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee department budgeting, staffing, productivity, and resource planning to support financial and operational objectives.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a large, distributed revenue cycle team while establishing clear accountability, performance expectations, and development plans.
- Support enterprise initiatives, strategic projects, and other operational priorities related to revenue cycle transformation and growth.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare revenue cycle management.
- Broad experience across authorization, eligibility, billing, collections, denial management, cash posting, payer relations, and accounts receivable.
- Proven experience leading large, geographically dispersed teams within a complex healthcare environment.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, commercial payer requirements, and patient accounting regulations.
- Demonstrated success improving revenue cycle performance, cash collections, denial rates, reimbursement, and operational efficiency.
- Experience implementing revenue cycle technology, automation, system enhancements, and process transformation initiatives.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to interpret financial reports, contracts, performance metrics, and operational data.
- Experience building KPI dashboards and leveraging reporting tools to drive accountability and business performance.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with senior executives and cross-functional leaders across Finance, Operations, Compliance, Technology, and Managed Care.
- Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.
- Demonstrated commitment to developing teams, mentoring leaders, and building high-performing organizations.
- Advanced proficiency with revenue cycle platforms, reporting tools, data analytics, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
