We are seeking a strategic, enterprise-minded Vice President of Real Estate & Workplace Services to lead the evolution of Unum’s physical workplace, real estate portfolio, facilities operations, workplace services, corporate security, environmental health and safety, hospitality, and related workplace technology platforms. This highly visible leadership role is for a modern real estate and workplace executive who can connect business strategy, employee experience, operational resiliency, financial performance, and long-term portfolio value. This leader will shape how Unum’s workplaces enable business performance, collaboration, productivity, safety, and belonging.

The role oversees a diverse portfolio that includes offices, campuses, data centers, leased spaces, tenant-occupied spaces, and specialized environments, with a primary focus on the U.S. portfolio and selected support for the global portfolio. The VP will partner closely with senior leaders across People, Finance, Legal, Technology, Operations, Risk, Sustainability, and business leadership to build workplace and real estate solutions that are practical, data-informed, financially disciplined, and future-ready.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year real estate and workplace services strategy aligned to enterprise priorities, talent needs, employee experience, and financial objectives.
  • Lead portfolio strategy and optimization across owned, leased, tenant-occupied, and specialized environments, including site strategy, leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, consolidations, and capital investments.
  • Oversee facilities and workplace operations that deliver safe, reliable, compliant, efficient, and employee-centered environments.
  • Manage workplace planning, design, construction, renovation, relocation, and capital project delivery grounded in business requirements and user experience.
  • Direct corporate security, emergency preparedness, critical event monitoring, incident response, access control, and duty of care programs.
  • Lead environmental health and safety programs, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, energy and utilities management, and building performance reporting.
  • Oversee hospitality and workplace experience services that support productivity, connection, wellbeing, and service excellence.
  • Develop technology, data, analytics, and reporting capabilities that improve occupancy insights, asset management, service delivery, cost transparency, resiliency, and continuous improvement.

What Success Looks Like

  • A forward-looking workplace and real estate strategy that supports business priorities and enhances the employee experience.
  • Clear governance, service standards, metrics, and reporting across the portfolio.
  • Improved portfolio utilization, cost discipline, operational reliability, and capital planning.
  • Strong vendor partnerships and service delivery models that are scalable, accountable, and cost-effective.
  • A high-performing, customer-centric team known for collaboration, operational excellence, and trusted partnership with senior leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, real estate, facilities management, business, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certification preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience across corporate real estate, facilities, workplace services, construction, portfolio management, security, or related operational functions.
  • Experience leading complex teams and partner ecosystems, including service providers, brokers, landlords, contractors, consultants, security partners, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated financial leadership, including capital and operating budgets, business cases, P&L accountability, vendor economics, and portfolio cost optimization.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, influence, and change leadership skills.
  • Comfort using data, analytics, workplace technology, occupancy insights, and service metrics to drive better decisions and measurable outcomes.
