Vice President Product Development
This role is based in Dulles, VA and is a permanent, fully onsite position.
About the role
The Vice President of Product Development will provide strategic and technical leadership for the development, delivery, and sustainment of the company's platform solutions, with primary responsibility for a hardened Android/AOSP environment. This role owns the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including product roadmap execution, system architecture, software development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
The successful candidate will establish and drive the technical vision for the platform, making critical architectural and engineering decisions across the software stack while ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer requirements. As a hands-on technical leader, this individual will remain actively engaged in system design, code quality initiatives, technical reviews, and the resolution of complex engineering challenges.
This role is responsible for ensuring that all platform capabilities meet applicable security, compliance, and assurance requirements for defense, federal, and commercial customers. The Vice President of Product Development will establish and enforce secure software development practices, quality standards, release management processes, and engineering best practices to ensure the delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure products.
Working closely with executive leadership, product management, program management, and customer-facing teams, this individual will translate market opportunities, customer needs, and strategic priorities into executable technical plans and successful product outcomes. The position also oversees engineering resource planning, budgeting, workforce development, technical recruiting, succession planning, and overall organizational growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end product development lifecycle, including product roadmap execution, system architecture, software development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
- Establish and drive the technical vision for the platform, making critical architectural and engineering decisions across the software stack.
- Remain actively engaged in system design, code quality initiatives, technical reviews, and resolution of complex engineering challenges.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering organization, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure platform capabilities meet security, compliance, and assurance requirements for defense, federal, and commercial customers.
- Establish and enforce secure software development practices, quality standards, release management processes, and engineering best practices.
- Translate market opportunities, customer needs, and strategic priorities into executable technical plans and successful product outcomes.
- Oversee engineering resource planning, budgeting, workforce development, technical recruiting, succession planning, and organizational growth.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to support business objectives and organizational success.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant hands-on development, technical leadership, and engineering management responsibilities.
- Proven success leading and scaling high-performing engineering organizations at the Director, Vice President, or senior executive level.
- Deep expertise in software engineering, including large-scale distributed systems, platform development, embedded systems, mobile applications, and Android/AOSP environments.
- Demonstrated track record of driving products from concept and architecture through development, launch, commercialization, and ongoing product evolution.
- Experience delivering complex, production-grade software solutions on schedule while meeting quality, performance, security, and scalability requirements.
- Strong knowledge of modern software development methodologies, including system architecture, secure software development, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review practices, and Agile development frameworks.
- Proven ability to align technical strategy with business objectives, customer requirements, and go-to-market initiatives.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, team-building, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience partnering with executive leadership, product management, and customer-facing organizations.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Axon technologies, Android platforms, software applications, and enterprise software development.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $270,000 - $340,000 per year.
