About the Role

The Vice President of Finance will play a critical role in ensuring the organization's financial strength, sustainability, and ability to serve the community effectively. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced financial leader to guide the organization through transition, planning, and development while strengthening financial operations, supporting strategic decision-making, advancing systems modernization, and preparing the organization for its next chapter.

Reporting to the President & CEO, this role provides strategic leadership and oversight for all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit management, compliance, risk management, and long-range financial planning. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President of Finance serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee, helping leaders understand choices, anticipate risks, evaluate opportunities, and support informed decision-making that advances the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and contribute to organizational strategy, planning, and decision-making.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and advice to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.
  • Lead the organization's budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Ensure the integrity of the organization's financial operations, including accounting, audit, internal controls, compliance, and risk management.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights and partner with leaders across the organization to support decision-making, financial stewardship, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Finance Department, including workforce planning, succession planning, knowledge transfer, talent development, and organizational continuity planning.
  • Lead the evaluation, modernization, and continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting processes, and operational workflows to support organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and informed decision-making.
  • Identify and evaluate financial risks, opportunities, and strategic investments that support the organization's long-term sustainability.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Finance Department and across the organization.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. CPA, MBA, MPA, or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including experience in senior finance management roles.
  • Experience managing accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, auditing, and financial analysis.
  • Experience managing multiple funding streams, including government grants, contracts, foundation funding, and other restricted funding sources.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership teams, Finance Committees, and Boards of Directors to support organizational budgeting, financial forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience leading organizational change, systems modernization, process improvement, or financial transformation initiatives preferred.
  • Nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
