About the role
The Vice President of Architecture and Planning at Stanley Martin Homes leads the enterprise-wide architectural product strategy, ensuring new products support market demand, operational efficiency, and company growth objectives. This role oversees floor plan and elevation design, establishes and maintains the company's option structure, leads market analysis, owns and maintains the master product library, sets and enforces architectural design standards, and coordinates closely with division leadership to align product decisions with business needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide product development strategy for Stanley Martin, ensuring new products support market demand, operational efficiency, and company growth objectives.
- Oversee floor plan and elevation design to ensure products meet Stanley Martin design standards, buyer expectations, construction requirements, and division needs.
- Establish and maintain the company's option structure to support simple, consistent, and efficient product offerings across all divisions.
- Lead market analysis efforts to identify product opportunities, design trends, buyer preferences, and competitive positioning across Stanley Martin markets.
- Own and maintain the master product library, ensuring product segments are accurate, current, scalable, and accessible.
- Set, maintain, and enforce architectural design standards for all Stanley Martin products.
- Coverage of division feedback, product needs, permitting requirements, and operational concerns in product strategy and design standards.
- Provide input into standard details and code compliance initiatives to support consistent documentation, constructability, and building department approval across markets.
- Partner with division leadership, Purchasing, Estimating, Construction, Sales, Marketing, and Land teams to align product decisions with business needs and implementation requirements.
- Provide strategic guidance to architecture leaders and teams responsible for design, documentation, product management, and division support.
- Represent Architecture and Planning in company meetings, product strategy discussions, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Develop, improve, and implement tools, processes, and standards that increase consistency, speed, quality, and scalability across the architecture function.
- Mentor, coach, and support professional development for architecture leaders and team members.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the SVP of Architecture.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in residential architecture, production homebuilding, product development, or related field.
- Prior leadership experience managing architectural teams, product strategy, design standards, or cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of floor plan design, elevation design, option strategy, building codes, construction methods, and residential construction documentation.
- Experience using market data, buyer research, competitive analysis, and division feedback to guide product decisions.
- Experience developing or maintaining architectural standards, product libraries, plan catalogs, or option programs.
- Ability to communicate clearly with senior leadership, division leaders, and cross-functional partners.
- Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field.
- Licensed architect / engineer.
- Preferred: Experience with national or multi-division production homebuilding organizations.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or related design/documentation platforms.
- Experience with estimating, purchasing, option management, or bill of materials processes.

Pay
$195,000.00 to $222,300.00 annually plus bonus.
