About the Role
The Vice President of Medical Affairs, Physician Enterprise (VPMA) is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, clinical performance, and continued growth of the Physician Enterprise, Ambulatory Care services, and Clinical Councils at Catholic Health. Reporting directly to the Chief Physician Executive, the VPMA provides executive leadership for the clinical practice management of 250+ physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), ensuring alignment with organizational goals, quality standards, and Catholic Health's mission.
The VPMA directly oversees the Physician Enterprise Dyad Medical Directors, Ambulatory Care Medical Directors, Ambulatory Care Quality Medical Director, assigned Physician Enterprise physicians and providers, the Senior Director of Clinical Councils, and Clinical Council Chairs. This role leads the development and implementation of clinical programs, evidence-based protocols, and clinically integrated care networks while fostering collaboration among physician practices, hospitals, ambulatory services, and community partners.
The VPMA supports provider compensation strategies, physician and APP integration, contract development and management, and service line expansion. The role ensures full compliance with governmental, regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards across the Physician Enterprise and Ambulatory Care settings.
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the VPMA partners with system leaders to align physician practices, improve access to care, enhance patient outcomes, and advance operational excellence. The position provides strategic oversight for physician recruitment, retention, leadership development, practice acquisition opportunities, market growth initiatives, quality performance, productivity, and financial stewardship.
The VPMA champions a patient-centered, evidence-based, interdisciplinary culture focused on continuous improvement in safety, quality, patient experience, and cost management. Additional responsibilities include educating physicians and caregivers, supporting interdisciplinary care teams, establishing clinical standards, and implementing strategies that promote coordinated, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership for clinical practice management of 250+ physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
- Oversee Physician Enterprise Dyad Medical Directors, Ambulatory Care Medical Directors, and Clinical Council Chairs.
- Lead development and implementation of clinical programs, evidence-based protocols, and clinically integrated care networks.
- Support provider compensation strategies, physician and APP integration, contract development, and service line expansion.
- Ensure compliance with governmental, regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
- Partner with system leaders to align physician practices, improve access to care, and enhance patient outcomes.
- Provide strategic oversight for physician recruitment, retention, leadership development, and practice acquisition opportunities.
- Champion a culture focused on continuous improvement in safety, quality, patient experience, and cost management.
- Educate physicians and caregivers, support interdisciplinary care teams, and establish clinical standards.
- Collaborate with medical leadership to streamline patient triage, improve care coordination, and support evidence-based care.
Requirements
- More than 10 years of experience practicing medicine, with medical staff or administrative leadership positions.
- Significant experience working with physicians, administration, and the Board of Directors of a health system.
- Demonstrated competence in managing large, multispecialty practices.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal relations, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with diverse personalities and manage multifaceted, long-term projects alongside day-to-day activities.
- Solid record of effective physician relations, including problem-solving and leading transformational change.
- Advanced business or related degree (MBA, MHA, MSM, MSHA) preferred.
- Board certification, or equivalent, in Surgery or Medicine.
- Current physician license, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of New York.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $295,639.50 - $443,449.50, with variations based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
