Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategy that enables Westat to expand meaningful work for HHS and commercial clients, and create opportunities for professional growth.
  • Lead the strategic direction for the Clinical Research practice, aligning with Westat’s business goals, and manage a portfolio of business with key clients including HHS agencies and commercial clients.
  • Establish thought leadership to promote Westat’s expertise, attract new clients, and recruit top talent.
  • Foster a collaborative environment while maintaining accountability among the Practice’s management team.
  • Design and execute targeted business development efforts to grow the Practice, effectively leveraging current contracts and services, and company-wide resources.
  • Vet new opportunities that align with strategic plans and corporate business targets, engage with senior staff on bid decisions, and collaborate across Westat to bring full company capabilities to bear.
  • Maximize revenue by establishing an operating plan for the Practice, aligning with Westat’s strategic direction, and monitoring practice budgets for direct and indirect expenditures.
  • Maintain client satisfaction to ensure high client ratings, complete project risk reviews, and develop mitigation strategies for all projects.
  • Develop or update policies and procedures to improve the quality of work, efficiency, and streamline operations.
  • Mentor leaders within the practice, attract and retain talent, and oversee staff supervision and development efforts.
  • Affirm hiring plans to support project execution.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and at least 15 years’ experience overseeing/conducting clinical research in a government contracting organization.
  • Strong strategic vision and experience developing and executing business strategy.
  • Demonstrated business development leadership.
  • Experience overseeing federal research projects with a strong commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • A proven track record of innovation in health IT, clinical research, and clinical trials projects.
  • Recognized thought leadership, including conference presentations, published work, and relationships with Clinical Research clients.
  • Excellent communication skills.
