About the role

As a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Support Specialist, you will provide technical support to ABB Customers, End Users, Sales Channel, Product Management Teams, and ABB Drive Services. The role covers Variable Frequency Drives, 3 Phase Power, System Control Wiring, and Connectivity. This is a hybrid position based in New Berlin, WI or remote within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support via phone and email for common problems related to the application of Low Voltage Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including assisting customers and field techs with commissioning, troubleshooting, and warranty evaluations.
  • Assist customers with drive programming, parameter configuration, communication, and integration with control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, field service, sales, and product teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Collaborate with the warranty team to initiate the fulfillment of warranty replacements and labor authorization for warranty repairs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of support cases, solutions, and best practices using Salesforce Case Management and other tools.
  • Stay current with VFD technologies, software updates, and industry trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience OR Associate’s degree and 6 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience OR High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of relevant Electrical/Technical experience.
  • Knowledge of how Variable Frequency Drives work (required).
  • Firm understanding of the principles of electricity and ability to apply these principles in troubleshooting drives.
  • Ability to respond to customer inquiries and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Must already have work authorization that permits employment with ABB in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or direct experience with motors and/or control system wiring and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, etc.).
  • Previous experience troubleshooting a technical product over the phone.

Pay

Base salary for this position is expected to range between $58,500 and $93,600 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
