Veterinary Technician - Surgery & Anesthesia

PESCM, located in San Rafael, is the only 24/7 veterinary hospital in Marin County, offering specialties in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Urgent Care, Emergency, Radiology, and Critical Care. Responsibilities

• Oversee appointments and manage clients throughout their visit.
• Participate with the Surgeon’s in-patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Obtain and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
• Utilize imaging modalities for patient and procedural assessment, including radiography and CT.
• Execute, induce, monitor, and recover all assigned sedation and anesthetic events.
• Calculate and deliver anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIs with accuracy.
• Review and understand all medical records pertinent to patient care.
• Provide empathy, comfort, and unparalleled nursing care to all patients, acting as a strong patient advocate during hospitalization.
• Maintain all equipment on a per-use basis to ensure safety and best practice care.
• Deliver extensive client communication and education regarding post-operative care and medications at admit and discharge.
• Work occasional holidays and overtime as needed.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of and experience with preparation and administration of injectable and inhaled anesthetic agents.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a veterinary specialty setting.
• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) preferred but not required for the right candidates.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and the community.

Pay

Base pay: $34.00 - $38.00 per hour, dependent on experience.

• $200 for being on call, plus an additional $300 if called in.
• Eligible for differentials: $4.00/hour overnight and $3.00/hour weekend (stacked).
• Bonus: $3,000 for licensed technicians.

Schedule

• Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM.
• Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM.
• Double pay for holidays.
