About the role

Middlesex Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join their patient-focused team. The ideal candidate will bring confidence in clinical abilities, enjoy active involvement in patient care, and excel in a collaborative hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians during appointments, treatments, and diagnostic procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and assist with client communication and education
  • Perform venipuncture and collect samples for laboratory testing
  • Place and maintain IV catheters
  • Calculate, prepare, and administer medications as directed
  • Prepare basic cytology samples and assist with in-house diagnostics
  • Prepare patients and equipment for surgical procedures
  • Monitor anesthesia, patient vitals, and recovery
  • Assist with dental procedures, including cleanings and dental radiographs
  • Position patients and obtain diagnostic radiographs
  • Provide nursing care and treatments to hospitalized patients
  • Document treatments and patient information accurately in medical records
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas
  • Help support an efficient daily workflow and positive team environment

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience
  • Previous experience in general practice, emergency, specialty medicine, or another full-service veterinary setting
  • Confidence with common veterinary technical and nursing skills
  • Strong patient handling and restraint abilities
  • An understanding of anesthesia and surgical patient monitoring
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • The ability to prioritize responsibilities in a busy clinical environment
  • A dependable, proactive, and collaborative work style
