Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Eatontown, NJ is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Oncology department. This role involves participating in both injectable chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

About Garden State Veterinary Specialists

We are a multispecialty practice with boarded veterinary specialists in Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Dermatology, Cardiology, Rehabilitation, and Ophthalmology. We have been treating felines with hyperthyroid disease using radioactive iodine since 2001. Our team includes technicians with VTS credentials in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

Responsibilities

• Oversee appointments and manage clients throughout their visit
• Participate in the Oncologist’s in-patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
• Provide both injectable chemotherapy and radiation therapy depending on patient diagnosis
• Obtain and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates
• Utilize imaging modalities like radiography and CT for patient and procedural assessment
• Execute, monitor, and recover all assigned sedation and anesthetic events
• Calculate and deliver anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIs with accuracy
• Review and understand all medical records pertinent to patient care
• Provide empathy, comfort, and unparalleled nursing care to all patients, advocating for their well-being during hospitalization
• Maintain all equipment on a per-use basis to ensure safety and best practice care
• Deliver extensive client communication and education on various oncology disease processes

Requirements

• CVT/LVT/RVT preferred, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Veterinary Technician (will consider those with 2 years veterinary assistant experience and eager to grow in oncology)
• Advanced knowledge and experience in preparation and administration of various chemotherapeutic agents
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and a proactive, positive attitude
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and the community
• Excellent client service skills, honesty, integrity, and a desire to learn and have fun

Schedule

• Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday
• Goal to transition to a 4-day work week in the future

Pay

$23/hr - $34/hr depending on skills, experience, and credentials, plus overnight shift differentials.
