Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
  • Take history from clients and perform physical assessments, recording observations legibly in medical records.
  • Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow-up.
  • Communicate patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, conduct in-house laboratory tests, and prepare forms for outside labs; call owners with results as requested by the veterinarian.
  • Provide and monitor nursing care for hospitalized patients, including administering medications (all routes) and monitoring.
  • Admit and discharge patients following all protocols and educate clients during these processes.
  • Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards, and other areas as requested.
  • Use practice software proficiently for dispensing medications, printing treatment sheets, recording communications, and generating labels (e.g., x-ray, lab, cage cards).
  • Enforce OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by the veterinarian.
  • Conduct tech appointments such as pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc.
  • Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures, including placing IV catheters and initiating fluid therapy.
  • Assist in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia with the doctor present.
  • Support operating room, recovery, and post-op nursing care as requested.
  • Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience required; vet tech experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to new situations.
  • Ability to multitask and work as a team player.
  • Basic veterinary medical terminology required.
