United Veterinary Care is pleased to host veterinary students for externships at its network of over 100 hospitals across 20 states. These clinical experiences allow students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world hospital settings.

About the Role

This externship is designed for clinical-year students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools, typically in their 3rd or 4th year. Students will share their goals at the start of their rotation and be quickly integrated into the team through case discussions, collaborative problem-solving, and hands-on patient care in various departments including general practice, emergency, and specialty settings.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in case discussions
  • Collaborate on problem-solving
  • Perform hands-on patient care in GP, ER, and specialty settings
  • Work alongside experienced veterinarians and support staff
  • Discuss cases with supervising veterinarians and confirm exam findings

Requirements

  • Current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • Student in clinical years for school credit
  • Provide proof of professional liability insurance

Qualifications

Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit. Stipends are available to offset travel and lodging costs (unless prohibited by your veterinary school).
