Job Summary
Cimarron Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Medical Director to lead their AAHA-accredited companion animal hospital in Tucson, Arizona. The position involves shaping the hospital's medical vision, mentoring veterinarians, and maintaining an active clinical caseload.
About the Role
The Medical Director will lead the medical vision and standards of the hospital, mentor and develop associate veterinarians and veterinary support staff, foster a culture of collaboration, and guide medical protocols, patient care standards, and quality initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and develop associate veterinarians and veterinary support staff
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning
- Guide medical protocols, patient care standards, and quality initiatives
- Support hospital growth and strategic planning
- Maintain an active clinical caseload in small animal medicine and surgery
- Partner with hospital leadership to enhance client experience and operational excellence
- Recruit, develop, and retain top veterinary talent
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school
- Licensed or eligible for veterinary licensure in Arizona
- Active veterinary license in good standing
- Strong background in companion animal medicine and surgery
- Experience performing soft tissue surgery and dental extractions
- Confidence managing urgent care and same-day cases
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for mentorship, team development, and medical excellence
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Medical Director, Chief of Staff, Lead Veterinarian, or other veterinary leadership role
- Experience mentoring early-career veterinarians
- Interest in hospital growth, culture development, and medical quality initiatives
- Fear Free, Cat Friendly, or AAHA-related experience
- Experience developing clinical protocols and advancing standards of care
