Veterinary Lab Assistant

Pay: $23.61 - $32.82 per hour. This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system. Competitive shift differential pay is offered for eligible hours worked on nights and weekends, based on a 4-hour minimum:

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 shift differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.00 shift differential

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean laboratory by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
• Run quality control samples to verify accurate results on equipment
• Perform regular maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment
• Prepare and document specimens for external laboratory
• Provide an environment to furnish high-quality, accurate diagnostic laboratory results
• Run necessary lab requests in a timely and precise manner
• Record appropriate results in patients' written and electronic files
• Maintain accurate records on quality control, billing, and send-out laboratory samples
• Compassionately, calmly, and gently approach and handle patients
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of animal care and handling
• Approach and handle patients according to safety protocols and core values
• Use practice management software to maintain client and patient records according to hospital protocol
• Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations, and converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms
• Implement appropriate animal husbandry skills to decrease disease spread, injury, and stress to patients
