Join our new veterinary practices launching in early 2024 as a full-time Veterinary Assistant on the Healthcare Practice Team. As a clinical team member, you’ll contribute to a practice built from the ground up by veterinarians, equipped with sophisticated equipment and purpose-built technology to deliver the best medicine while focusing on patient and pet parent care. Responsibilities

  • Support the practice team by providing high-level, proficient veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
  • Implement outlined policies and procedures using integrated technology to deliver consistent and appropriate medical care within your abilities.
  • Perform veterinary assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assistance with operating medical equipment (e.g., lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental) and handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Demonstrate team support and care for others’ work experiences.
  • Follow the practice’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC).
  • Review invoices with clients and handle client payments.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates (in practice, at referral, and under home care).
  • Be proficient using the Practice Information Management System (PIMS) and assist others on the team in its use.
  • Maintain responsibility for pharmacy holdings and keep controlled substance logs.
  • Assist the practice manager with inventory needs.
  • Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
  • Participate in self-development courses and required compliance training.
  • Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
  • May be required to work weekends and travel occasionally.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Veterinary Assistant.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
  • Experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Passion for helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
  • Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
  • Occasionally lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
  • Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.

Pay

The hourly range for this role is $18.02 - $27.16. The specific hourly range offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, and work location.
