Veterinary Assistant - Dentistry
About the role
As a Dentistry Veterinary Assistant at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Reno, NV, you will perform various tasks related to dental care, including oral examinations, dental charting, taking dental radiographs, setting up and assisting with dental procedures, performing professional dental cleanings, administering medications, and more.
Responsibilities
- Perform oral examinations
- Perform dental charting
- Take dental radiographs with proper positioning and technique
- Set up and assist with dental procedures and surgeries
- Perform professional dental cleanings including subgingival scaling, root planning, and curettage
- Perform effective oral nerve blocks in preparation for advanced procedures as directed by veterinarian
- Calculate basic medical math
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
- Perform phlebotomy
- Place peripheral intravenous catheters
- Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Induce, monitor anesthesia, and recover patients
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have a strong passion for dentistry and the veterinary field. You should also have a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of experience as a veterinary assistant or similar role. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (VTS) is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
You should have excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently and under pressure. You should also be comfortable working with animals and have a positive attitude towards learning and growth.

Pay
The starting pay range for this position is $18.45 - $25.30 per hour, with pay varying based on experience.
