Responsibilities
- Support the veterinarian and veterinary technician as directed
- Provide professional and efficient client service
- Monitor and document husbandry requirements including cleanliness, nutrition, bedding, physical therapy, exercise, and comfort
- Perform assistant level assessments such as pain scoring or vital signs, administer oral medications as directed, and document observations in patient medical records
- Aid in patient handling, diagnostic test setup, nursing care, and patient admission/discharge under supervision
- Assist with emergency department procedures including patient triage, transport, and CPR
- Transport patients within the hospital and between the hospital and external locations
- Clean and sterilize surgical and medical equipment, pack instruments, clean surgical suites, and perform basic in-house laboratory tests
- Communicate patient and client status, trends, or concerns to doctors and technicians
- Provide aftercare for patients according to owner wishes and communicate any issues to appropriate personnel
- Follow OSHA and hospital policies, maintain clean and organized work areas, and keep accurate patient medical records
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in animal care and/or veterinary settings preferred
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and veterinary procedures
- Ability to perform basic laboratory tests and record results accurately
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to lift and move patients and equipment
