Veterinary Assistant

About the Role

Fairgrounds Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care. This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to continue utilizing and developing a well-rounded skillset across patient care, client service, surgery, and outpatient procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, and surgical workflows
• Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
• Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
• Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
• Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
• Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
• Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
• Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday

Pay

$18 - $20 per hour

Schedule

Full-time, 4/10 schedule, Monday through Friday

Fairgrounds Animal Hospital (the biggest little clinic in Reno!) offers a wide range of veterinary services from wellness exams and annual vaccines to dental care, soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, and urgent care. We have an in-house lab, digital x-ray, dental radiography, ultrasound, intra-oral camera, laser therapy, and a paperless record system through Cornerstone. We utilize high-grade anesthetic monitoring equipment, including doppler, capnography, ECG, and pulse oximetry. We are a well-established and growing 4-doctor practice that is truly part of the Reno community. Our team includes 3 LVTs who are committed to ongoing learning and development.
