Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room
  • Obtain and record weight and vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations) in the electronic medical record
  • Collect thorough patient histories and document visits in the EMR
  • Absorb and follow instructions from veterinarians and veterinary technicians regarding appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia
  • Assist with patient restraint, collection of laboratory samples, handling and dispensing of medications, and preparation for surgical and dental procedures
  • Monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility
  • Perform in-hospital treatments such as giving injectable and oral medications, intravenous fluid therapy, keeping patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated)
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthesia
  • Help train new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required
  • Keep the hospital environment neat and clean, performing regular cleaning based on necessity and a pre-determined maintenance schedule

Requirements

  • At least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice or sufficient relatable animal care experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Careful and sympathetic attitude, maintaining a professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations
  • Telephone and computer skills
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform tasks with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds as necessary
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
