Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Feeding
• Restraining animals for the veterinarian
• Escorting clients and pets into exam rooms and taking history
• Drawing up vaccines and starting consultations
• Restraining animals for the veterinarian or LVT
• Feeding animals as appropriate with Doctor’s instructions
• Cleaning and ensuring animals are clean and areas are odor-free
• Administering medications (as allowed by law)
• Grooming, as needed, including nail trims
• Recording vaccinations and routine animal care
• Maintaining animals’ exercise and bathroom routines
• Ensuring the general wellbeing of every animal under your care
• Performing laundry tasks
• Interacting with the public and providing client education
• Other duties include restocking, cleaning, assisting other staff members, performing computer work, paperwork, answering phones, taking payments, and scheduling appointments as needed

Qualifications

• Ability to interact with the public
• High School Diploma or equivalency

Specific Work Requirements

• This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, lift, reach, stoop, carry, push and pull for at least 8 hours a day.
• Lifting of packages and large bags of food 25-40 lbs
• Lifting and holding animals of all sizes, including large ones
• Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records
• Ability to restrain animals
• Ability to attend staff meetings and training classes
• Ability to understand the needs of the animals
• Ability to read body language of animals

Prior Experience

• Prior experience with animals is preferred

The salary for this position is $19/hr.
