Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant plays a critical support role in our hospitals, assisting veterinarians and technicians while ensuring the safety and comfort of pets, clients, and team members. This role helps maintain a productive workflow in the hospital and supports an organized, clean, and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aid with patient care, monitoring, and procedures as allowed by state laws
  • Maintain patient flow and support veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks
  • Safely restrain pets for exams and procedures
  • Set up and clean exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
  • Educate clients on preventive care and promote Optimum Wellness Plans
  • Collect patient histories and maintain accurate medical records
  • Provide exceptional client service and ensure pet comfort at all times
  • Mentor and support new team members as needed
  • Comply with all hospital safety protocols and procedures

Qualifications

  • Certificate from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred, or equivalent training and experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary, animal care, or customer service role is desirable
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Skills & Competencies

  • Action-oriented, organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication, listening, and client service skills
  • Comfortable working around a variety of animals
  • Basic computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office and veterinary software is a plus
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
