Veterinarian - Medical Director
About the role
Montpelier Veterinary Hospital is hiring a Medical Director to lead our three‑doctor team. We are expanding and modernizing the practice and seek a veterinarian who wants to shape that growth. If you have an interest in building a specialty service — such as rehabilitation, acupuncture, advanced dentistry, or another area — we are ready to invest in it with you. You will have access to X‑ray, ultrasound, and an in‑house laboratory today, and manage a caseload that spans wellness, dentistry, general surgery, and senior medicine. The role offers a five‑day week with no weekends, no on‑call, and no late nights, plus a genuine voice in how we practice tomorrow. Located at 16752 Mountain Road, Montpelier, VA 23192, the hospital sits in rural Hanover County, about 25 minutes north of Richmond, with nearby trails, rivers, cultural sites, and easy access to Richmond’s dining and entertainment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a three‑doctor veterinary team.
- Drive practice expansion and modernization initiatives.
- Identify and develop new service lines (e.g., rehabilitation, acupuncture, advanced dentistry) with practice investment.
- Oversee diagnostics including X‑ray, ultrasound, and in‑house laboratory.
- Manage a diverse caseload ranging from wellness and dentistry to general surgery and senior medicine.
- Participate in practice decision‑making and help shape future protocols.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or VMD degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid veterinary license in the state of Virginia.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience.
- Interest in leadership, mentorship, and practice growth.
