About the role

The Private estate near Highland Falls, NY is seeking a Private Automotive Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, safety, and overall readiness of an extensive vehicle and recreational equipment collection.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and overall mechanical readiness of the estate’s vehicle and equipment collection
  • Service and repair classic, antique, and vintage vehicles while demonstrating an understanding of older engines, carbureted systems, ignition systems, mechanical fuel delivery, cooling systems, braking systems, and period-correct components
  • Maintain and repair modern domestic and imported vehicles, including luxury, performance, and specialty automobiles
  • Provide expert support for European and other high-end imported makes, with the ability to identify when manufacturer-specific equipment, dealership service, or a marque specialist is required
  • Maintain and repair recreational and utility equipment, including side-by-sides, SXS vehicles, UTVs, ATVs, golf carts, utility carts, trailers, and related off-road equipment
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, fluid services, brake repairs, suspension work, tire rotations, battery replacement, seasonal preparation, and other routine mechanical work
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer-related issues using professional-grade scan tools, multimeters, diagnostic software, service manuals, and manufacturer resources
  • Perform or coordinate required software updates, programming, calibration, coding, and firmware updates through authorized dealerships or qualified specialists when necessary
  • Research and monitor manufacturer recalls, safety campaigns, technical service bulletins, warranty coverage, and recommended service updates for all vehicles
  • Carefully coordinate recall repairs and warranty work with dealerships, manufacturers, restoration shops, and specialty vendors, ensuring all work is completed properly and documented
  • Maintain comprehensive service records for each vehicle and piece of equipment, including maintenance histories, repair invoices, recall records, registrations, inspection dates, warranty information, mileage, and upcoming service requirements
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules, seasonal service calendars, and long-term care plans for the collection
  • Regularly inspect vehicles for safety, cosmetic condition, fluid levels, tire condition, battery health, leaks, warning lights, unusual noises, and other potential concerns
  • Ensure vehicles are fueled, charged, clean, operational, and ready for use according to the principals' schedules and preferences
  • Prepare vehicles for seasonal storage, extended inactivity, transport, road trips, events, exhibitions, or inclement weather
  • Safely move, stage, retrieve, and deliver vehicles as needed, including transportation to dealerships, service centers, detailers, registration facilities, inspection stations, and specialty vendors
  • Aid with vehicle acquisitions, sales, inspections, transport coordination, and pre-purchase mechanical evaluations when requested
  • Provide informed recommendations regarding repairs, restoration decisions, parts sourcing, equipment replacement, upgrades, and long-term maintenance priorities
  • Source appropriate OEM, aftermarket, restored, or period-correct parts while balancing authenticity, reliability, safety, and availability
  • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with dealerships, specialty mechanics, restoration facilities, parts suppliers, tire vendors, towing companies, detailers, transport companies, and other automotive professionals
  • Review outside vendor estimates, monitor repair quality, verify completed work, and help ensure the estate receives appropriate service and value
  • Maintain the garage, workshop, tools, diagnostic equipment, parts inventory, fluids, batteries, and automotive supplies in a clean, safe, organized, and professional condition
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for vehicle lifts, battery systems, fuels, chemicals, welding equipment, power tools, and other mechanical operations
  • Collaborate closely with estate management, security, drivers, household staff, corporate personnel, and other team members to ensure vehicles are available and prepared when needed
  • Provide clear updates regarding vehicle condition, anticipated repairs, maintenance priorities, vendor appointments, costs, timelines, and safety concerns
  • Respond calmly and efficiently to breakdowns, warning lights, flat tires, dead batteries, equipment failures, or other urgent automotive matters
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the principals, their schedules, their residences, and the estate's vehicle collection
  • Perform additional automotive, garage, property, or operational support duties as reasonably requested

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of professional, hands-on automotive repair and maintenance experience
  • Significant experience working with a combination of classic or vintage automobiles, modern vehicles, high-end luxury vehicles, performance vehicles, and imported makes
  • Strong knowledge of European and other specialty automotive brands is highly preferred
  • Advanced mechanical, electrical, and computerized diagnostic skills
  • Proficiency with modern automotive scan tools, diagnostic software, electrical testing equipment, digital service platforms, and technical repair information
  • Strong understanding of modern vehicle electronics, control modules, sensors, software systems, driver-assistance technology, infotainment systems, and connected vehicle features
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, researching, documenting, and coordinating manufacturer recalls, technical service bulletins, warranty repairs, and software updates
  • Experience working with collector vehicles, private fleets, executive vehicles, luxury dealerships, restoration shops, race or performance facilities, or private estates is strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate digital and physical service records
  • Strong command of the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional, polished, discreet, and service-oriented demeanor
  • Calm and resourceful problem-solving ability, particularly during breakdowns or time-sensitive situations
  • Excellent time management, punctuality, follow-through, and multitasking skills
  • Team-oriented approach and willingness to collaborate with household, corporate, security, and transportation personnel
  • Positive, dependable, and flexible personality with a “no task too big or too small” attitude
  • Ability to safely lift automotive parts and equipment and perform the physical requirements associated with mechanical work
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays when urgent vehicle needs arise
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
