About the role

This is an entry-level opportunity to learn the testing environment from an industry leader. You will work hand-in-hand with test and design engineers to support the company's product testing needs, including functional, safety, and thermal performance tests on battery pack systems for hybrid and electric vehicles. You will become proficient in test site installation, equipment/instrumentation connection, functional verification of test set-up, and start-up of the site automation system (Lynx). Safety certification to perform high voltage electrical and mechanical tests is required upon start-up.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for existing electrical test facilities.
  • Work with electrical program teams to ensure facility capability for future testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering and program teams to automate existing and future testing capabilities.
  • Develop test systems with efficient timing and 100% issue/error detection (product or test execution related), emphasizing full automation and requester-not-present scenarios.
  • Perform data analysis and generate comprehensive technical reports.
  • Lead and support the creation and publication of standardized test methods.
  • Configure, operate, and program Lynx site automation systems and supplemental controls/I/O for fully automated testing and 100% error detection/response.
  • Review and sign off on test setups for accuracy and safety.
  • Analyze test data for performance and execution issues; develop detection strategies for uncaptured issues and facilitate data delivery to customers.
  • Provide direction to test technicians to aid in Design Verification (DV) testing.
  • Translate test request requirements into lab-executable instructions and test plans.
  • Assist technicians in day-to-day execution of testing.
  • Lead test site troubleshooting efforts.
  • Develop test equipment and facility upgrade capital project proposals, including authoring specifications, statements of work, building financial/business rationale, obtaining cost estimates, and managing project timing and installations.
  • Coordinate with lab scheduling, equipment vendors, and skilled trades.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of engineering experience (preferred), or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school.
  • Battery laboratory test experience preferred.
  • Understanding of vehicle powertrain, power supply, and vehicle electrical system operation, with an emphasis on high voltage, hybrid, and electric vehicle applications.
  • Knowledge of data collection and communication systems (AVL Lynx and CAN/Ethernet communication protocol a plus).
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation measurement systems, particularly transducers (e.g., temperature, pressure, fluid flow).
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors and experience.
  • Strong teamwork, analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and adjust to changing requirements.
  • High energy, self-starter with the ability and desire to take responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and courage to effectively communicate key issues and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ability to work within diverse environments.
  • High integrity and a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Less than 50 lbs, 25% of the time.
  • Sitting: 75% of the time.
  • Standing: 50% of the time.
  • Bending: 25% of the time.
  • Stooping: 25% of the time.
  • Exposure to high noise areas possible in the test facility, 25% of the time.
  • Special clothing/equipment: Slip-resistant hardened-toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection in designated areas, 100% of the time.

Work Environment

  • 100% inside, in an office environment and test lab.
  • Exposure to test equipment, 25% of the time.
  • Occasional use of hand tools, 25% of the time.
  • May require occasional local travel, 25% of the time.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (day shift).
  • Work hours are normally 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are critical.
  • Flexibility to cover weekend testing requirements as needed.

  • Dependable personal transportation to the work site is required.
