VDOT Bridge Construction Inspector

Dewberry is seeking a Bridge Construction Inspector to work on VDOT projects in the greater Northern Virginia area.

Responsibilities

• Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms, and specifications
• Review and monitor contractor’s plan of operation including phasing
• Advises contractors of violations and reviews and recommends approval of corrective measures
• Identifies necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions
• Makes field measurements of pay items and conducts materials testing
• Observes and monitors contractor’s construction equipment
• Maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily diaries, as-built plans, and pay quantity records
• Support CM project managers with coordination and scheduling of field activities
• May coach and/or guide a subordinate group

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years prior bridge construction inspection experience on VDOT projects
• OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification preferred
• ACI Field Grade I Technician certification preferred
• Experience in VDOT Structural Steel erection requirements preferred
• Excellent communications skills
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
• Ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations
• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains
• Ability to repetitively stoop, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift 25 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools, and boxes
• Ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Pay

The projected hourly range for this position is $47.00–$57.00 hourly ($98,000–$120,000 annually), depending on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
