About the role
Work closely with the Preconstruction Team, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Field, and Manufacturing teams to obtain the information needed to start each project efficiently. Mentor and train staff on trade-specific means, methods, and best practices to ensure consistent application. Lead the enhancement of process and materials selection.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a firm understanding of drafting and design techniques and convey information clearly.
- Review project plans, specifications, submittals, and related documents.
- Monitor and lead the coordination process for one or multiple jobs.
- Layout trade systems in 3D, depending on project size and schedule.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field teams to gather required project-start information.
- Generate and track RFIs for designers and issue them to the designated Project Management team.
- Perform quality-control reviews and corrections of VDC/BIM drawings to ensure compliance with contract documents; optimize system routing to save fittings; confirm each trade places its own hangers to avoid conflicts and ensure adequate spacing.
- Lead coordination meetings using NAVISWORKS and coordinate with VDC staff and sub-contractors.
- Set up collision sets in the Mast NAVISWORKS file and guide designers through daily collision resolution.
- Ensure coordinators meet the schedule and monitor other trades for compliance; notify the Project Manager of any delays.
- Communicate in advance to VDC management any need for additional staff or overtime to maintain the project schedule.
- Manage all aspects of the CPMI plan and notify the Project Manager and Superintendent of any variations.
- Perform quality-control reviews of fabrication drawings before delivery to the shop.
- Document weekly lineal feet totals of each trade’s progress in a spreadsheet and submit to executive staff on Monday mornings.
- Document systems requiring redraw due to scope changes or rerouting needs from space constraints.
Requirements
- College/University graduate with 7 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Indirect supervision; applies advanced techniques and knowledge within the function.
- Makes independent decisions regarding complexities and methods.
- Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
- Liaison to internal and external groups, acting independently on matters pertaining to the function.
