VDC Manager

Responsible for overseeing all Virtual Design and Coordination (VDC) operations of the company. This role combines skillful VDC experience with strong leadership to ensure the success of all VDC projects. The manager will work under general supervision, following established guidelines and participating in regular check-ins to review progress, clarify priorities, and address challenges.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional management to direct reports through communicating, planning, organizing, staffing, controlling, and leading to attain corporate mandates and goals.
• Conduct employee reviews and maintain team feedback for growth.
• Plan and execute VDC activities on time and in line with corporate goals.
• Lead and mentor VDC Team Leads and modelers; manage workload, staffing, and performance.
• Oversee VDC scope from project kickoff through coordination and deliverable release.
• Enforce modeling standards, workflows, and quality control across all projects.
• Manage high-level coordination issues, clash resolution, and constructability reviews.
• Ensure VDC output aligns with fabrication standards and field installation needs.
• Support field teams with accurate drawings, layout data, and model updates.
• Approve major VDC deliverables, including shop drawings and as-built strategies.
• Improve VDC processes, evaluate new technologies, and support department growth.
• Collaborate with PMs, Estimating, Fabrication, and Field Operations.
• Perform administrative tasks to support the broader Preconstruction group.
• Comply with federal and state law, regulations, and all Company rules.
• Participate in online and in-person training and other educational opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Perform any other job-related activities requested by immediate supervisor.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of VDC modeling and coordination.
• Strong understanding of coordination, fabrication, and installation of mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Experience managing VDC teams and leading coordination efforts.
• Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, and related VDC tools.
• Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and drive organizational change.
• Skilled in mentoring, coaching, and developing technical and operational staff.
• Familiarity with financial management of a department/team using ERP software.
• Strong cross-functional communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Commitment to safety leadership and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of applicable experience, or
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering preferred.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in VDC preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position requires long hours sitting and using office equipment, including telephones and computers. It may also require some light lifting of files and materials and carrying documentation to different departments from time to time. The position may involve some repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and elbows.

Working Conditions

This position is normally performed in an office or jobsite office work environment, which does not subject the employee to the elements. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet. This position may require a flexible schedule, periodic overtime, and overnight travel as needed.
