Job Title: VDC EngineerJob Description The VDC Engineer manages the Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination process across multiple projects simultaneously, typically supporting at least two to three projects at a time. This role collaborates closely with design architects, engineers, trade partners, and the internal project team from preconstruction through the construction phase. The VDC Engineer leads BIM execution and coordination, supports project delivery through detailed model management, and contributes to continuous process improvement and the enhancement of the organization’s virtual design and construction portfolio. Responsibilities Manage the BIM coordination process on a minimum of two to three projects simultaneously from preconstruction through construction.Develop comprehensive BIM Execution Plans and BIM coordination schedules that align with overall project milestones and deliverables.Lead regular BIM coordination meetings with all project stakeholders, including design architects, engineers, trade partners, and the project team.Conduct clash detection and clash avoidance using Navisworks and assign identified issues to the appropriate responsible parties for resolution.Interpret contract documents and review Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and shop drawings to ensure alignment with the coordinated BIM model.Create and manage content in Revit to support and facilitate the BIM coordination process and maintain accurate, up-to-date models.Document and chronicle project events related to BIM for use in process improvement initiatives and for showcasing the virtual design and construction portfolio.Travel to project sites as needed to support coordination efforts, attend meetings, and ensure field conditions align with the BIM model.Train staff members on the use of BIM tools and workflows during construction to support broader adoption and effective utilization.Collaborate with project teams to integrate BIM outputs into project scheduling and planning activities, supporting accurate sequencing and visualization. Essential Skills 4+ year bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field, or 3+ years of related work experience in lieu of a degree.3+ years of experience using Autodesk Revit for model creation and coordination.3+ years of experience using Navisworks for clash detection, coordination, and model review.3+ years of experience using AutoCAD for design and drafting support.3+ years of experience using SketchUp and Civil 3D for modeling and design support.Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Experience with VDC software such as Lumion, Enscape, Synchro, Bluebeam, and other visualization and coordination tools.Experience in construction, construction management, and commercial construction environments.Experience in design engineering or project engineering roles supporting construction projects.Experience in project scheduling and scheduling software.Ability to use creative problem solving to address coordination issues and design conflicts.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and resolve issues with a strong sense of urgency.Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse project stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on a variety of project types, including large private construction projects and complex institutional or infrastructure projects.Experience contributing to marketing or portfolio development by documenting and presenting BIM and VDC work.Interest in process improvement and standardization of BIM workflows across multiple projects.Ability to train and mentor colleagues on BIM tools and best practices.Strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.Comfort working in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary project team environment. Work Environment This role is primarily on-site and office-based, working Monday through Friday. The VDC Engineer works closely with project teams in an office setting while also traveling to active project sites as required to support coordination and verify field conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
