VCS Athletic Coach

Duties And Responsibilities

• Aid in the coordination and supervision of the athletic program and team.
• Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.
• Aid in designing a training program and game program.
• Assume duties of the Head Coach if required to do so.
• Aid in the development of team rules, communicate them to the players and their parents, and equitably enforce them.
• Maintain good public relations for the athletic program:
• Ensure that student athletes meet eligibility rules.
• Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.
• Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms.
• Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
• Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
• See that school policies are observed during all activities.
• Stay updated with new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
• Obtain advance approval of the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director for all activities and expenditures.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Superintendent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree related field preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with student athletes.
• In-depth knowledge of applicable sports and playing rules.
• Knowledge of OSAA rules governing the program and student-athletes.
• Speaks English at an idiomatic level.
• Ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement activities.
• Exceptional leadership skills and knowledge in coordinating activities, training, and games under direction of the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Occasionally stoops, bends, and reaches.
• Requires some travel.
• Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
• Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Must demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes.
• Sighted with capacity to visually monitor athletes.
• Must have excellent English written and oral communications.
