About the role

The EMT-Basic and Paramedic positions at VBEMS, Inc. require completion of state-approved training and licensure. The EMT-Basic is responsible for delivering patient care and transporting patients on both emergency and non-emergency transports. The Paramedic is a member of the healthcare team providing pre-hospital medical care and transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the ambulance crew.
  • Deliver patient care and transport on emergency and non-emergency transports.
  • Assess and provide pre-hospital medical care and transportation for patients of all age groups.
  • Maintain and upgrade competencies through various educational programs.
  • Work under pressure in difficult situations and handle high levels of mental/visual fatigue.
  • Render patient care to the level of licensure and training consistent with Van Buren County Medical Control treatment protocol.
  • Complete all required paperwork and attend monthly run reviews.
  • Participate in community education and public service events.
  • Provide overall direction to EMTs of lower licensure and seniority on ambulance calls and transports.
  • Report all incidents and accidents in writing.
  • Attend VBEMS company meetings and complete routine and basic maintenance of the building and grounds.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Completion of State of Michigan approved EMT-Basic or Paramedic.
  • Completion of clinical time required by EMT training program and up to a maximum of an additional 40 hours ride time with VBEMS, Inc. after hire.
  • Current State of Michigan Emergency Medical Technician Licensure in good standing at the EMT-Basic or Paramedic Level.
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Legible handwriting and ability to assess quickly a scene and patient, make decisions regarding resources needed, and level of medical care needed.
  • High levels of strength and/or stamina to regularly lift weights up to 100 pounds and assist with heavier tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure in difficult situations.
  • Ability to operate and focus on a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.
